concert was totally rocking!

With the news of our university starting a cricket league, we woke up with the excitement to register our cricket team of 8 players for an upcoming tournament. After the morning classes and such, I went out with friends to play some makeshift cricket just so we won't have any lame excuse that "i haven't played for 6 months/2 years" on the tourny day. It wasn't bad. It was good getting back to my sport. The tournament date is Oct. 7-8. Let's see how we fare till then in preparation of the tournament.

Other than that, there was a Penn Masala concert. It was amazing to have an evening out with such great 'intrumental singers'. Of course, with friends getting together, it couldn't get any better. After the concert, friends planned to have a night out at a Middle Eastern restaurant close by. Manan, of course, was the catalyst who has done quite a lot in the past as well. We actually got lost on our way to the restaurant because the supposed exit was closed due to contruction and we had to take a detour. On our way through the inner-localities of Dearborn, we really 'enjoyed' the surroundings and the environment on a friday night. oh and we also got to see two men chased by undercover police cops. Apparently, they ran into some house in the neighborhood and we didn't really wanna stop to witness the conclusion so off we went. Finally, after some real spearheaded struggle, we finally made it to the restaurant. it was a fun night and definitely good food which also served as sehri for me. well not exactly sehri but pre-sehri. whatever that meant. when we got back we were extremely tired and ready to go to bed but me n sohaib decided to stay up till fajr n then go to bed.

all in all it was an exciting friday that will always have us marking our travel routes around metro detroit area.

Just the players...

By the way, Iranian issue is still lingering. It's been quite a few months but not much developments yet. I wonder where that will go. War waged on Lebanon was certainly a tragedy and unnecessary really. Especially because of two soldiers. Now obviously I understand the fact that Israel wanted to set the power straight and keep up with their realist stand in the region, it still doesn't make sense to negate all the UN resolutions and humanitarian appeals and go on with the war. The reason they had to back down because of intense international pressure. It doesn't matter how hard they try to keep their realism on the run; if they turn against the people, they're turning the tables over themselves basically. People have brought the governments down in a flash and history proves it. Standing against the people of this world is unlike standing against the governments and armies of the world and the harder you try to push people down, the quicker it will be that you'll regret it. And for the people in trouble, these kinda situations happen. They arise. If you guys stand up for yourselves and be strong for your rights, you'll get out of it with the lease amount of trouble than if you actually give in and then think about a revolution. It has happened in every century. This century isn't any different. It's just the players:) Keep hope and it will be alright very soon!

The Infamous Disappearing Act

Sorry about the disappearing act from moi. I was actually vacationing and didn't wanna think about blogging in mid-summer and then it just kinda dragged after that and here I am now, a week into my university and finally thinking of recounting my vacation tales.

Well it was quite a busy summer. I went to Karachi and got to see all that flooding and pouring rain. Enjoyed it actually but got back before it was over. Two weeks at home before I took off for back-to-school chores and yeah, seems like a pretty okay semester. Did I ever tell how much I love to study marketing? I would love to take all the marketing classes if I could but I gotta have the pre-reqs for each one of em and that kinda sucks so yeah...just one for now.

On a literary note, I also picked up Benazir Bhutto's autobiography Daughter of the East and found it quite fascinating (as a poli sci minor at least). Very detailed and much much descriptive including her personal details a lot more than the general overview of her party. Unfortunately, she concluded it a few days before she became the prime minister. I would've loved to read about her views after she was 'thrown off' twice from her post.

Other than that, it was a pretty busy summer and quite a few meet-ups with tons of friends. After I've got back, it's crazy how much time I've been spending on the phone but I know it will be over soon and my friends/acquaintances will get busy soon with their daily lives as well (hopefully). New academic year is quite exciting plus getting together with all the friends and kicking off my fifth year boarding when I'm only 19:)

I will have references to my vacation stories spread out during the year as per the topic I wanna write about so that's the reason you can't find much in here. Overall, summer was fun and especially the flight back to detroit was an awesome final touch to it;)
